Who you'll be working with

Sow HR was founded by Amy Carter, who has spent her career leading people functions from the inside — sitting on leadership teams and owning the outcomes.

She started out in specialist recruitment before moving into generalist HR at a global risk management business, advising across several countries' employment law and cutting recruitment spend sharply by sourcing candidates directly. A regional People Partner role in multi-site retail followed, working alongside Executive teams on store closures, redundancy programmes, employer branding and management training delivered across the UK.

Two Head of People roles came after that. The first covered a company-wide change and culture programme, a new HR system, a remote-working transition and a redundancy programme run start to finish. The second was a stand-alone brief building a people function from nothing — onboarding, policies, HRIS and payroll, and an eighteen-month People Roadmap — while the business went through multiple funding rounds and a B Corp renewal.

Sow HR exists to give smaller businesses that same standard of support, without needing to hire it in full time.

HR questions small businesses ask us

A few of the things people want to know before they get in touch. If your question isn't here, just ask.

What does an HR consultant actually do?

An HR consultant gives you in-house HR expertise without the cost of hiring one — covering contracts, policies, recruitment, performance and restructures. At Sow HR you get practical, plain-English advice whenever a people question comes up.

Do I need HR support if I only have a few employees?

Yes. UK employment law applies from your first employee, including a written statement of particulars and clear policies on discipline, grievance and absence. Getting this right early is cheaper than fixing it later.

Which areas do you cover?

Devon, Somerset and Bristol in person, plus UK-wide remotely by phone, email and video call.

Can you help with a disciplinary, grievance or dismissal?

Yes — we'll guide you through a fair, lawful process in line with the Acas Code, from investigation through to outcome and appeal, reducing your tribunal risk.

Are you CIPD qualified?

Yes. Sow HR is led by a member of the CIPD.

Can you support a restructure or redundancy process?

Yes — from planning and selection criteria through consultation and documentation, handled properly from start to finish.

Do you work with other HR consultants as an associate?

Yes — overflow, project delivery and specialist input, delivered discreetly under your brand. See support for HR consultants for details.

How quickly can you help if something urgent comes up?

Email or call and we'll come back to you quickly — HR problems rarely wait. Retainer clients get priority access.
